In brief
Perhaps no opera production has enjoyed the success and diffusion of the Bohème conceived by Franco Zeffirelli in 1963 and later enriched by the costumes of Piero Tosi. Over the decades, generations of conductors and singers have succeeded one another, yet the realism of the garret, the spectacular visual impact of the two-tier stage in the second act, and the melancholy of the snow in the third continue to exert their irresistible fascination on audiences. This new revival marks the return to the podium of Daniel Oren, a profound connoisseur of Puccini’s language, with two protagonists making their debuts on the La Scala stage: Carolina López Moreno, now sought after by the leading opera houses, and Stefan Pop.
