How to find us
La Scala is located in Milan city centre. You’ll find us in the Piazza della Scala square opposite the Palazzo Marino, Milan’s city hall.

The main entrance to the theatre is in Piazza della Scala but ticketholders with gallery tickets should enter via the Theatre Museum entrance on Largo Ghiringhelli.

Where is the box office?
The box office in Piazza Scala, Largo Ghiringhelli 1.
The box office opens every day from Monday to Saturday from 12 noon to 6 pm.

On the first day in which tickets are put on sale for each production the opening anticipated at 10am. 

In case of evening performances, the box office is open 2 hours before the beginning of the performance and until 15 minutes after the beginning of the show, exclusively for tickets of that specific evening performance.

Please note that the box office opens 1 hour before Filarmonica concert performances.

Season programme
La Scala’s season calendar can be obtained free of charge from our box office and from the reception at Via Filodrammatici 2. It can also be posted for a small charge to addresses in Italy and Europe (€ 5) and other countries (€ 10) by sending a non-transferable banker’s draft made out to “Fondazione Teatro alla Scala” to Teatro alla Scala-Ufficio Spedizioni, via Filodrammatici 2, 20121 Milan, Italy.

How to buy tickets
You can buy tickets online, from authorised sales agents and from the La Scala box office on the dates shown in our ticket sales calendar for each performance.

How much do tickets cost?
Ticket prices range depend on the type of performance. More information can be found at the section Ticket Prices.

Any remaining last-minute tickets can be purchased at the box office, which also sells 140 gallery tickets according to the times and procedures set by the “L’Accordo” musical association.

Concessions are available for young people, the over-65s, patrons with disabilities and members of workers’ associations.

What if I lose my ticket?
If you lose your ticket, please go to the box office no further than 2 hours before the beginning of your performance to request a replacement. You will be asked to bring your ID card and an a self-declaration of loss/theft. 

When do performances start and how long do they last?
Start times and running times for each performance are provided in the listings for operas and ballets in the Season section. Concerts last approximately 2 hours. Curtain-up times are also shown on your ticket, on posters outside La Scala and in the season programme.

Playbills in the foyers and in the stalls and gallery corridors list the running times of performances and the duration of each act or movement and the interval(s). All performances begin promptly and you are advised to arrive at the theatre at least twenty minutes before curtain-up.

Dress code at La Scala
The public is kindly requested to dress in keeping with the decorum of the Theatre, out of respect for the Theatre and for other viewers. People wearing shorts or sleeveless T-shirts will not be allowed inside the auditorium; in this case, tickets will not be reimbursed.

Children at La Scala
If a child were to disturb other spectators, the child and her escort will be kindly invited to attend the rest of the performance in the foyer of the Theater through special monitors. In any case the child must have the ticket.

For families, we advise to choose performances specifically conceived for children (Great Performances for Children).

The Theater bars (at the Parterre, Boxes and Galleries Foyers) serve drinks and sandwiches, that can be also be booked online to skip the line at the cashier, for operas and ballets. The bars are open at the beginning of the performance and during the intermissions. Moreover, special menus served at standing tables in the Boxes’ Foyer can be booked exclusively online (with at least 24h in advance) for selected performances. Food and drinks can be consumed only in the foyers and cannot be brought in the auditorium or boxes.

Children with a minimum age of 3 years are admitted to the shows, with the exception of the "Great Shows for Little Ones" open to children of all ages

The stalls and galleries have two cloakrooms that you may use free of charge. Boxes have their own private cloakrooms. Bulky objects such as umbrellas, bags, cameras and other items must be left with the cloakroom attendants.

 

Programmes can be purchased from ushers in the auditorium and foyers. Programmes are priced at € 20 for the first opera of the season, € 15 for other operas, € 10 for ballets and € 5 for concerts.

Programmes for current and past seasons can be purchased from the La Scala Shop. Multilingual electronic librettos are available free of charge in the auditorium.

Please note that for technical reasons, not all seats are equipped with electronic librettos. Audience members are not entitled to any compensation should the electronic libretto de out of order.

Subtitle screens displaying the libretto are available in boxes, galleries and on seat backs in the stalls. These screens can be switched on or off and do not disturb spectators around you. Italian and English subtitles are available for all of the season’s operas. For all performances of the Season there are English and Italian versions, while in the case of French, German or Spanish operas, the text in the original language is also made available.
Please note that for logistical and / or technical reasons, not all seats are provided with text displays.

In the case of malfunctioning of the device, spectators are not entitled to any compensation.

 

Teatro alla Scala offers a greater accessibility service aimed at people with visual and hearing impairment. Find out the projects at "Accessibility" section.

 

There is ramp access to the stalls for audience members with restricted mobility. A disabled toilet can also be found at stalls level. From this level, patrons can access the galleries via the stairs or by taking the lift from the stalls to the first and second galleries. 

We regret that there is no lift access to boxes. For security reasons, wheelchairs are not permitted in the boxes or galleries.


Ticketholders with seats in the stalls or galleries arriving after the start of the performance will be asked to wait in the foyer or the second gallery respectively until the interval. Box ticketholders may take their seats after the performance has started.
 


The use of mobile phones, cameras with or without flash and audio/video recording devices is not permitted in the auditorium.
