Box office guidelines

How to purchase tickets

The tickets of Teatro alla Scala are one sale only at the official buying channels:

  1. Online at www.teatroallascala.org
  2. Box Office of Teatro alla Scala, 1 Largo Ghiringhelli - Milan
    Open from Monday to Saturday from 12am to 6pm
    On the day of a performance, tickets can be collected or purchased at the Box Office from 2 hours before up to 10 minutes after the start of the performance.
    The Box Office is closed on: 1 November, 8, 24, 25 and 26 December; 1 and 6 January, Easter Sunday and Monday, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, and from 1 to 20 August.
  3. Official Viva Ticket authorized dealers

The ticket sales calendar is summarised for each production on www.teatroallascala.org.
On the first day of sale, tickets can be purchased through all authorised channels starting at 10.00 am.
Any changes to the times given above will be communicated in advance at this page.
Purchases by sector:
- in the stalls up to a maximum of 6 seats (the first day of sale, up to a maximum of 4 seats);
- in boxes up to a maximum of 6 seats;
- in the balconies up to a maximum of 2 seats.

The registration of your name and surname, mailing and e-mail address, telephone number, date of birth is mandatory before you can proceed with your first purchase, however, this only needs to be done once.
Following registration, all tickets are registered in the name of the purchaser.

Tickets cannot be cancelled, replaced or refunded. Refunds will be processed only in case of a date variation or the cancellation of a performance.
Tickets are only valid for the date and time indicated thereon, it is therefore recommended that you check whether these details are correct at the time of purchase.
Tickets must be presented intact and in their original form; they are valid for a single entrance and cannot be reused after they have been validated at the first access check point into the Theatre.

  • The sales of Teatro alla Scala tickets by unauthorized persons is prohibited. No retailer may be in possession of tickets before the official sale date of the events. Furthermore, tickets cannot be resold at a price higher than that indicated on the ticket itself for profit and, in particular, in violation of the provisions of paragraphs 545 and 546 of art. 1 of Law 232/2016 and related implementing legislation on the sale of tickets on the secondary market (secondary ticketing); the Teatro alla Scala reserves the right to report any relevant facts to the competent authorities Authority.
  • The Teatro alla Scala takes no responsibility for the characteristics, quality and price of tickets purchased through unauthorized sales channels.
  • In the event that it is ascertained that a ticket or subscription has been purchased through unofficial channels or unauthorized parties, or that the ticket or subscription has been duplicated or obtained in conflict with these Regulations, admission to the theatre will be denied.
  • Tickets to Teatro alla Scala performances may not be used for commercial, advertising or other promotional purposes (e.g. they cannot be offered as prizes in competitions) except when prior written authorization has been provided by the Fondazione Teatro alla Scala.
  • Customers are not allowed to linger at the Box Office for longer than the time necessary to conclude a purchase. Photo and video recordings of personell at work are not allowed, except with previous authorisation.
  • These Regulations are also available on the Teatro alla Scala website www.teatroallascala.org. Should these Regulations be updated, the version published on the website – or, in any case, the one which is more favorable to customers – prevails.

Online: at this page you can easily choose your seat and get a preview of its visibility on the online theatre plan. The ticket purchased (which arrives as an e-ticket in pdf format attached to the purchase confirmation email), when presented at the entrance either in printed form or on your smartphone, allows you to skip entirely the queue at the Box Office. Online purchases can be paid for by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners, JCB, Union Pay).

Authorised ticket vendors

The e-tickets purchased from authorised vendors (in pdf format, attached to the purchase confirmation e-mail) when presented at the entrance to the theatre either in printed form or on the smartphone allow holders to skip the queue at the Box Office (complete list available on www.teatroallascala.org).

VivaTicket Authorised vendors are free to use payment methods of their own choice.

For any purchases made through the Box Office, you will be required to show an identity document and to give your personal customer code, which can be obtained by registering:
- at the Theatre Box Office using the dedicated electronic stands;
- online at www.logscala.org (accessible also from mobile devices); you will then receive your customer code by e-mail.

Following registration, all tickets are registered in the name of the purchaser.

If a ticket is used by a person other than the buyer, the latter is required to issue a written proxy to the user, which must be performance at the entrance to the theatre together with the ticket and a copy of the buyer’s valid ID document. The proxy form is available from the Theatre Box Office (also at the time of purchase), or can be downloaded here.
If the buyer has purchased more than one ticket in his/her name, the presentation of a proxy is only necessary if the buyer will not be attending the performance.
The Theatre reserves the right to verify the buyer’s identity before granting entry into the theatre by requesting ticket holders to present an identity document and the relevant proxy (if necessary): this is done to check the truthfulness of the data printed on the ticket, the correspondence between the person carrying the ticket and its registered buyer, and also the regularity of the sales service, ensuring that the ticket purchase process is not compromised or that any other ticket regulations are not violated. If the aforementioned verification fails, the Teatro alla Scala Foundation and Ticketone S.p.A. reserves the right to cancel the tickets in question and to deny access to the ticket holder; the Theatre also reserves the right to forbid the sale of tickets for the current and upcoming seasons to customers implicated in irregular ticket purchases.

Tickets cannot be cancelled, replaced or refunded.


Tickets are only valid for the date, time and place indicated thereon, it is therefore recommended that you check whether these details are correct at the time of purchase.


Tickets must be presented intact and in their original form; they are valid for a single entrance and cannot be reused after they have been validated at the first access check point into the Theatre.
In the case of non-use or of the customer’s failure to attend a performance, tickets cannot be shifted to another date.

In the case of loss or theft, the buyer must fill in and hand in a self-declaration of ticket loss or theft to the Theatre Box Office no later than 2 hours before the start of the performance, together with a copy of his/her identity document.
In the event of live filming, for artistic purposes or reasons beyond its control, the Theatre reserves the right to make seat changes, allotting customers affected seats of equivalent or higher category (based on availability), or offering them similar seats for an alternative date. This does not however constitute grounds for a refund.

The Theatre Direction reserves the right to make changes to the cast for artistic purposes or reasons beyond its control, but this does not entail the right to a refund of the ticket price. The Theatre will communicate such changes in advance on its website and, when possible, by e-mail.

Refunds will be processed only in case of a date variation or the cancellation of a performance.

Should the date of a performance be changed or a performance be cancelled for any reason, ticket holders are entitled to a full refund of the ticket price, that is the amount indicated on the coupon, including any pre-sale fee, without prejudice to any of the consumer rights recognised by the law; refunds may be requested within 30 days of the changed / cancelled performance date, without prejudice to any other of the consumer rights recognised by the law.

Refund methods:

  1. for tickets purchased online, the amount will automatically be credited to the ticket holder’s account by the end of the month following the date of the performance;
  2. for tickets purchased at the Theatre Box Office, the amount will be credited by bank transfer following the handing-in of the original coupon and bank details (IBAN and, in case of residence or foreign current account, BIC / SWIFT) to the Box Office;
  3. for subscriptions, the refund of the unused portion of the season ticket will be effected by bank transfer.

Any further information regarding the canceled events and the relative extraordinary reimbursement procedures will be communicated by email to the holders of tickets and season tickets and published on www.teatroallascala.org.

Ticket prices

Advance sales at discounted prices

For the performances of Opera and Ballet from Monday to Tuesday (except the subscriptions A, B, P, R and special projects) and for all Concerts and Recitals, the Box Office offers a reduction of about 25% in all sectors for:

  • Young people aged up to 18 years;
  • Students under 26;
  • Adults over 65.

At the entrance to the theatre, costumers will be required to show a valid ID card; if the personal data does not correspond to the category entitled to the price reduction, the Theatre staff will not allow them admission.

Teatro alla Scala is committed to ensure the best access conditions for all its audience. You can find at this page a list of initiatives aimed at enabling all categories of the public to have the best experience

Two hours before the beginning of each performance, the unsold tickets are on sale with a reduction up to 25% online at www.teatroallascala.org and, only one hour before the beginning, also at the Theatre Box Office. This reduction does not apply to the balcony seats with limited view and to the tickets for Special Projects(Preview, Invitation to La Scala, hospitality, etc.).

For every performance the Theatre offers numbered tickets for seats with reduced visibility.

“L’ACCORDO” Association, collaborates with the Teatro alla Scala and is officially responsible for managing the queue, handing out tokens and calling the roll prior to the purchase of the tickets; members of the staff of “L'ACCORDO” Association are provided with identification badges.

  1. LIST REGISTRATION: every spectator must be present in the queue and show their identity document at Via Filodrammatici.
  2. ROLL CALL AND DELIVERY OF THE BRANDS: the spectators on the list, present at the time of the roll call at Via Filodrammatici, answer the call and withdraw the numbered tokens for themselves and at most one other person indicated on the list (showing their respective documents). Spectators who do not respond to the appeal lose priority in the queue.
  3. PURCHASE: at the end of the roll call of all the people on the list, each spectator, accompanied by the representatives of the Association L’accordo and equipped with the customer code relating to his / her personal registration, can purchase a maximum of 2 tickets at the Theater Ticket Office, exhibiting their respective numbered tokens.

The buyer’s name will be printed on the ticket and he/she will be required to show proof of identity at the entrance to the Theatre. If the names do not match, admission to the Theatre will be denied.
The tickets are sold by the Box Office in sequence and it is not possible to select seats.
No other lists drawn up by individuals other than those appointed by the Teatro alla Scala will be taken into consideration.
Any remaining tickets still available at the closure of sales to listed spectators will be made available to the general public through the Box Office.
We invite the viewers who get to the Box Office in advance to queue up orderly until members of “L'ACCORDO” Association arrive.

For the performances of the Special Projects (Under 30 previews, Grandi spettacoli per bambini, Invitation to the Scala), the balcony tickets are on sale on the day of the opening of sales. The owners of the balcony tickets are also reminded to respect the Regulations of the Hall and in particular the dress code.

The Theatre’s Cultural Promotion Service offers Council Libraries, Schools and Groups of Senior Citizens of the Lombardy Region special discounts on tickets for the performances of the Season and on subscriptions to the Symphonic Season or Singing Recitals.
For subscriptions registered through the Cultural Promotion Service, it is not possible to change ticket dates.

The Teatro alla Scala offers a number of discounted tickets for Opera and Ballet performances to the Workers’ Board for Cultural Promotion.

Special projects

Teatro alla Scala offers plenty of opportunities for young people to enter into its world.

Teatro alla Scala opens its doors to children – from schools and private families – with Opera performances and Concerts created specifically for them.

Children and teenagers who are not yet 18 on the day of the performance will pay a nominal admission fee of € 1. Family members or carers over the age of 18 can purchase their ticket in association with the minor’s ticket. No more than two € 1 tickets will be issued for each companion. The identity documents of all minor spectators must be presented to staff on entrance to the theatre.

The boxes of Teatro alla Scala have always been a meeting place and belonging for families.
With the project “Un palco in famiglia”, the Teatro alla Scala offers a new way to experience the emotions of the theatre with your family.
Some boxes selected by 4 seats of the Theater will in fact be reserved for children under 18 accompanied by adults.
For minors, the ticket has a special price of 15 euros per performance for operas and ballets and 10 euros per performance for concerts.
It is possible to purchase these boxes (in full, 4 seats) by subscription; or, at the opening of the sales of each show, it will be possible to purchase any remaining box seats also for single dates.

This initiative is reserved to Students organised in G.I.S. (cultural associations promoted by schools) and elderly people from Groups of Senior Citizens.

The presale is available :

- from 9 to 18 October 2023 for operas Don Carlo, Médée, Simon Boccanegra, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Guillaume Tell, La rondine and ballets Coppélia, Smith/León & Lightfoot/Valastro, Madina, La bayadère;

- from 8 to 15 January 2024 for operas Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci, Don Pasquale, Werther, Turandot, Il cappello di paglia di Firenze, L'Orontea, Der Rosenkavalier, Das Rheingold and ballets L'histoire de Manon, La Dame aux camélias, Balanchine/Robbins.

Every subscription gives the opportunity to buy 1 ticket for every title.
7th December Opening Night and UNDER30 previews are not included.

Additional subscriptions at a discounted price
Opera and Prime Opera subscribers are entitled to a 10% discount if they add one or more Mini and Ballet season tickets to their subscription.

These purchases are available only at the Theatre Box Office.

 

Date Change Service
Prime, Opera, Ballet, Mini, Weekend and Symphonic subscribers, should they be unable to attend a performance on the allotted date, can take advantage of the “date change service” for the same production and sector, upon availability.
Date Change can be done directly online for free in your Riserved Area.
Alternatevely, above mentioned Subscribers (excluded Under 30 and 30/35) can ask for date change serve also by email and telephone, at the price of 
€ 10 for opera and ballet performances and € 5 for concerts, with request within 48 hours from the date of the premiere of the production (specifying both the allotted date and the requested date change):

  • by email to [email protected];
  • by telephone at the dedicated number +39 02 99901922 (Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm).

After a change of date, subscribers cannot regain their original seat.

Date changes cannot be requested by subscribers of the Cultural Promotion Service. Subscribers to boxes can only request a date change for the entire box.

Services and facilities for subscribers

• Programme: Opera, Prime Opera and Prime Ballet subscribers will receive a booklet of vouchers entitling them to receive a free programme for each performance included in their subscription.

• Taxi Bookings: at the end of performances, subscription holders can ask theatre staff to call a taxi (registered with the 8585 service) and will be given priority over other customers (according to the request order).

• “Best in Parking” Card: discount card of 35% to be used at the automatic cash machines at the exit of the Theatre’s partnered parking garage in Piazza Meda, with access from Corso Matteotti.

• Theatre Museum: admission to the Theatre Museum is free for all subscribers. To access the museum, simply show your season-ticket card. For more information on the permanent collection and upcoming exhibitions visit www.museoscala.org.

• Season-ticket card holder: subscribers will receive a dedicated season-ticket card holder designed exclusively for Teatro alla Scala by Boost.

• Agenda: subscribers also receive an exclusive Boost agenda customised for the new season of the Teatro alla Scala.

  • Subscribers will receive a season-ticket card personal for every seat at every performance included in their subscription.
  • Subscribers who do not make it to the Theatre for a scheduled performance lose all their rights upon that production. In any case, their seat will not be used by the Theatre.
  • In the event of loss or theft of a season-ticket card, its holder must hand in an official declaration of loss or theft issued by the competent authorities (State Police or Carabinieri), in the original, together with a copy of his/her ID card, to the Theatre Box Office. the service of issuing the entrance tickets for each remaining show in the subscription must be paid, at the same price as the date change service (€ 10 for opera and ballet and € 5 for concerts).
  • Should a performance included in the subscription be cancelled, a corresponding refund will be issued to subscription holders via bank transfer. Any further information regarding the canceled shows and extraordinary reimbursement methods will be communicated by email to the holders of season tickets.
  • For companies, the Teatro alla Scala offers a choice of Corporate Subscriptions (page).
  • Should a subscription be used for profit or in violation of these Regulations, the Teatro alla Scala reserves the right to deny admission to the Theatre to those involved and to refuse any refund.

Information

All members of the audience must be in possession of a ticket (intact in its original printed format or in electronic form on a smartphone or device) or season-ticket card (intact in its original printed format), which must be kept available for inspection at all times and must be shown upon request to the Theatre staff. Members of the audience are required to occupy the seats allocated to them.
The doors of the theater open 45 minutes before the start of the performance.
Access to the auditorium is not permitted once the performance has started (with the exception of ticket holders with seats in boxes, who may enter their box even after the performance has started).
Latecomers will be asked to wait in the Foyer until the first break in the performance before taking their seats. The performance is screened live on screens in the Foyer (this service is offered free to viewers).

 

Children

Should a child disturb other members of the audience, the child and the accompanying adult will be kindly invited to watch the rest of the performance on the screens in the Foyer. In this regard, it is advisable to choose box or balcony seats for children to facilitate their exit from the theatre if necessary and avoid disturbing other viewers while doing so.
The Teatro alla Scala recommends that families with children take advantage of the Theatre’s Opera performances and Concerts staged specifically for them.

 

Dress code

The public is kindly requested to dress appropriately, out of respect for Theatre and for other viewers. People wearing tank tops or shorts will not be allowed inside the Theatre and will not be entitled to a refund of the ticket price.

 

Loss or theft of tickets

In the case of loss or theft of tickets, the customer must fill in and hand in a self-declaration of loss or theft to the Theatre Box Office no later than 2 hours before the start of the performance, together with a copy of his/her identity document.

 

Cloakroom

The cloakroom service is free of charge. Audience members should leave all bulky items, umbrellas, hats, bags, cameras, audio and video recording equipment as well as overcoats and coats at the cloakroom. The stalls and balconies have supervised cloakrooms and each box has its own small backroom.

 

Behaviour

Audience members are requested to behave appropriately at all times and to remain silent throughout the performance.
The use of mobile phones in the auditorium is forbidden.
It is forbidden to take photographs or to make any type of audio or video recording.
According to Italian Law (584/75) smoking is forbidden on the Theatre premises.
Food and drinks can be consumed only in the Theatre’s bar areas or in the Foyer.
It is forbidden to introduce glasses and food of any kind into the auditorium.

 

Facilitated access

For spectators with mobility impairments, access to the stalls is facilitated by ramps and there is a specially equipped bathroom on the same level. Access to the balconies is possible via special stairways and an elevator that goes directly from the stalls to the first and second balconies. Boxes are not served by elevators. For safety reasons, wheelchairs cannot access the boxes and the balconies.

 

Subtitles

The Theatre provides (free of charge) a text display of the libretto of the performance, with a multilingual translation. These electronic librettos are placed in front of the seats; they can be turned off if preferred and do not disturb nearby spectators in any way. For all performances of the Season there are English and Italian versions, while in the case of French, German or Spanish operas, the text in the original language is also made available.
Please note that for logistical and / or technical reasons, not all seats are provided with text displays.

In the case of malfunctioning of the device, spectators are not entitled to any compensation.

 

Programmes

Programmes are available from Theatre staff during each performance. The sale price is € 20 for the opening opera and € 15 for subsequent productions, € 10 for ballet productions and € 5 for concerts.

Subscriptions and tickets for the Milano Musica Festival concerts are on sale online at www.milanomusica.org and at the Milano Musica Box Office and at the Teatro alla Scala Box Office, largo Ghiringhelli.

 

Tickets can also be purchased on the day of the concert at the ticket offices of the respective halls starting two hours before the start.

The public is reminded that access to the halls is not permitted after the concert has begun, except during the interval, if any. In the event of a delay of more than 5 minutes from the concert start time, no refund will be given.
