After ten years, Teatro alla Scala presents a new production of Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, under the baton of Simone Young and Alexander Soddy.

The direction is entrusted to David McVicar, internationally acknowledged among the most appreciated opera directors of our time and who has already staged a broad repertoire of titles at La Scala, ranging from Cavalli to Berlioz, Cilea, and Verdi.

The vocal cast offers important Wagnerian voices such as Michael Volle, performing as Wotan in the whole cycle, Camilla Nylund as Brünnhilde and Klaus Florian Vogt as Siegfried.

The four new productions will at first be presented separately in the upcoming three seasons: Das Rheingold in October/November 2024, Die Walküre in February 2025, Siegfried in June 2025 and Götterdämmerung in February 2026.
From the beginning of March 2026, on the occasion of the 150 th anniversary of the its absolute Premiere in 1876, the whole Tetralogy will return for two full cycles, each within a week, as Richard Wagner intended. The first cycle (from 1 to 7 March 2026) will be conducted by Alexander Soddy, the second one (from 10 to 15 March 2026) by Simone Young.

Starting on 30 January, the Museo Teatrale alla Scala presents an exhibition open to the public until 3 May 2026, titled “The Ring Revolution – Visconti, Ronconi, Chéreau”, curated by Giovanni Agosti with exhibition design by Margherita Palli. The exhibition is dedicated to Pier Luigi Pizzi, set designer for Die Walküre and Siegfried in Luca Ronconi’s La Scala productions.

Also opening on 30 January, in the “A. Toscanini” Boxes Foyer, is “Wagner Resonances – Visions Around the Ring”, an exhibition curated by Gianluigi Colin and Mattia Palma. The show explores the legacy of Der Ring des Nibelungen through an exhibition project featuring the work of four contemporary female artists.

Subscriptions for each cycle of the Tetralogy will be available on sale from 23 April 2025 at 12 noon.

Season subscribers and donors enjoy an advanced booking period, from 29 January 2025.

Seats in parterre, IV order of boxes and first rows in the galleries can be singularly booked in subscription. Boxes in I, II and III order must be booked entirely (4, 5 or 6).
