In brief

Unquestionably the most eagerly awaited debut of the year on the podium of the La Scala Orchestra will be that of Kirill Petrenko, Chief Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic. Trained in a wide-ranging opera repertoire in his years at the Komische Oper, Petrenko has chosen the crepuscular elegance of Strauss and Hofmannsthal’s apologue on love and renunciation in eighteenth-century Vienna for his first performance at La Scala.
