A tribute to Luciano Pavarotti on the 90th anniversary of his birth

Milan, 12 October 2025

Today Teatro alla Scala pays tribute to Luciano Pavarotti, on the day that would have marked his ninetieth birthday. A constant presence on our stage from 1965 to 1992, his name is linked to legendary performances with conductors such as Abbado, Prêtre, Kleiber, Patané, Gavazzeni, Karajan, Ozawa, Maazel and Muti.

He makes his La Scala debut as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto conducted by Francesco Molinari Pradelli. From then on, almost three decades of appearances in works that define his career – La bohème, La Fille du régiment, Manon, L’elisir d’amore, La favorita, Un ballo in maschera, Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, Aida and Don Carlo – on several occasions alongside his friend Mirella Freni.

A special bond also connects him with Riccardo Chailly, with whom he shares many projects on stage and in the recording studio, from Turandot to Guglielmo Tell, Rigoletto and Andrea Chénier.
