In brief
Life, separation, salvation. In Das lied von der Erde, written after a period characterized by pain (such as the premature death of his beloved daughter Maria Anna), Mahler addresses the themes dearest to him. This work also represents a revolution in his writing: a great symphonic work in balance between Symphony and voice. The program ends with a cornerstone of the repertoire, the Symphony No. 5 by Beethoven, an author very dear to the Bohemian musician.
