A test bench for conductors and singers, with its score overflowing with passion and universally-known melodies, Un ballo in maschera will be conducted by a legend of the baton, Zubin Mehta, in a new staging by Oscar-winning Gabriele Salvatores, who after La gazza ladra in 2017 returns to the Piermarini stage together with production designer Gian Maurizio Fercioni. The lead role goes to Saioa Hernández, who after the acclaim she received for Attila returns in a Verdi opera alongside Fabio Sartori, while Violeta Urmana lends her vocal authority to the character of Ulrica, and Luca Salsi presents a new Verdi role at La Scala after having sung in I due Foscari and Ernani.
