With this title, the Theatre continues his mission to promote the Verismo repertoire and also to rediscover operas that had their premiere on this stage. L’amore dei tre re, to a libretto by Sem Benelli, is Italo Montemezzi’s best-known title, thanks also to the interest shown by the greatest conductors of the time: after the premiere conducted by Tullio Serafin at La Scala in 1913, the opera was presented at the Metropolitan in New York by Toscanini and returned to Milan for the last time with Victor de Sabata in 1953. The new production is conducted by Carlo Rizzi, much appreciated at La Scala for conducting Giordano’s La cena delle beffe in 2015, and directed by Alex Ollé, a prestigious name from La Fura dels Baus. The young Federica Lombardi, a former pupil of the Academy who received the Abbiati Award and was recently acclaimed as Elettra in Idomeneo, is the only female voice in a cast of very experienced male singers including Ferruccio Furlanetto, Roberto Frontali and Giorgio Berrugi.
