In brief
The second Puccini title in the composer’s death centennial year, Turandot returns to the stage in a new production directed by Davide Livermore, who has staged numerous acclaimed operas at La Scala in recent years and inaugurated four seasons in a row. In the most recent reprises of the opera, which Puccini left unfinished, Riccardo Chailly chose for the first time at La Scala the finale composed by Luciano Berio; this new production will use the finale by Franco Alfano.
