This a case where censorship was transformed into a box-office hit. With
Rigoletto one goes straight to the heart of Verdi’s catalogue. Indeed he defined it his best opera. On attending a repeat performance of the opera in Paris, Victor Hugo, author of the drama which inspired Verdi’s work, was left dumbstruck by the renowned quartet: "If only I too could make four characters speak contemporarily in my dramas …".
This sees the return of the sumptuous performance staged by Gilbert Deflo. Starring Leo Nucci, the Rigoletto par excellence.
