Sung in French with electronic libretto in Italian, English, French
Running Time: 3 hours 50 minutes
Faust is the life’s work of Gounod. Even after his early successes, he continued to work ceaselessly on it until it became the French opera by definition, a runaway success from its outset. It is pointless trying to identify the wealth of thought and profound philosophy of the original literary work.

The elderly doctor and scientist fully accomplishes his first wish: to be a young man in love once again. And the beauty of Margherita makes the eternal damnation worthwhile. It was Ravel who first sensed the discovery of a true “harmonious sensuality” in Gounod.

A new production, the sixth, for the 2009-2010 season, placed in the hands of the restless and stimulating Eimuntas Nekrosius.
