Les Ballets Russes alla Scala

The Ballets Russes at La Scala, Milan and the 1920s

 Exhibition at the Theatre Museum

On the occasion of the centenary of the foundation of the Ballets Russes, the Theatre Museum is holding an exhibition on the famous ballet company. On display are costumes, documents, photographs and objects related to the 14 choreographies presented in 1920 (at the Teatro Lirico) and in 1927 (at the Teatro alla Scala) by the famous choreographers and dancer, who originated from the Imperial Ballet of Saint Petersburg and settled in Paris and subsequently in Monte Carlo.

The Teatro alla Scala exhibition display differs slightly different from analogous initiatives that are currently held. It recalls the appeal of creations less well-known to the general public, and pays particular attention to the performing arts of the first two decades of the 20th century.

The project was conceived by Marinella Guatterini, with the assistance of Annalisa Pozzi; the exhibition display is by Isa Traversi. The exhibits come from the Teatro alla Scala Museum Theatre, the Teatro alla Scala “Caramba” Archives, the Toni Candeloro Collection and the Michel Fokine Balletto di Puglia Association and the Alexandre Vassiliev Collection. With thanks to Francesca Dalla Bernardina and Dario Menichino for their collaboration.

Opening hours and general information about the museum are available on the website.
