As a prelude to his debut at La Scala with From the House of the Dead later this month, Esa-Pekka Salonen, a specialist of contemporary music and a composer himself, conducts a tailor-made symphonic concert. In it he pays homage to Italy with rarely-performed authors such as Castiglioni and Donatoni, which introduce respectively a first part with Ravel and a second with Stravinsky. Such a programme testifies to the flair of the Finnish conductor; Donatoni’s Esa gets its first performance in Italy.
