With its immortal story of love, betrayal and redemption, Giselle is the most well known and danced ballet in the world, alongside Swan Lake. More than a century and a half after its first performances, it continues to fascinate audiences with its beautiful dancing, its sweet heroine, and the contrast between the earth-bound world of humanity and the mysterious darkness of that of the spirits.
Once again the La Scala Ballet will present the choreography of Coralli-Perrot in a version which is felt to be close to the original, as coached by Yvette Chauviré. It was seen for the first time at La Scala in 1950, with Chauviré herself in the title role.
