Tradition and renewal. For its 2009 tour the Bolshoi arrives at La Scala with one of the most beautiful operas in the Russian repertoire, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, in a new and exciting production by the young Russian director Dmitri Tcherniakov. La Scala’s audience has already been able to enjoy Tcherniakov’s work in last year’s The Gambler by Prokofiev, which the Italian critics have singled out with an Abbiati Prize.
