Two talented artists, young yet already much in demand, are on the programme of the second concert of the symphonic season. For his debut at La Scala 34-year-old Philippe Jordan is accompanied by 39-year-old Hélène Grimaud, one of today’s most fascinating pianists.

From his father Armin Philippe Jordan seems to have inherited the technical preparation and the sensitivity which make him one of today’s most promising conductors, both in the symphonic and in the operatic repertoires. A former assistant to Daniel Barenboim, he is Principal Guest Conductor at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and frequently performs in the major European and American theatres.

Hélène Grimaud is French but has a Corsican, German, North-African and Jewish ancestry. This inspired pianist with a magnetic personality is under exclusive contract to Deutsche Grammophon.

The concert focuses on the German repertoire, with exciting works on the programme: Brahms’ Concerto No 1 for piano and orchestra and Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra.
