Between a Lucia di Lammermoor in Dresden and I Puritani in Munich, between a Roberto Devereux and a Norma, a recital of Lieders in which Schubert and Dvořák predominate. Which artist could that be if not one of the most extraordinary coloratura sopranos of the last years?
Edita Gruberova returns to La Scala for a concert that underlines the refinement and the culture of her roots. Born in Bratislava (Slovakia), Edita Gruberova is half Hungarian (on the mother’s side) and half German (on the father’s side). The programme she has chosen for Milan is therefore close to her origins: eleven masterpieces by Schubert, four by Strauss and Dvořák’s Love Songs.
The gem of the evening will undoubtedly be Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen, in which the piano of her faithful Friedrich Haider is united to the clarinet of Fabrizio Meloni, musician of the Scala Orchestra. This Lied on its own is an excellent reason for attending the concert.
