After Flórez and Furlanetto, one of today’s most interesting feminine voices, who can switch effortlessly from the classic to the ancient repertoire.
Magdalena Kožena was born and grew up in Brno, Janacek’s hometown. Yet she also has Mozart in her DNA: she was discovered at the International Mozart Competition of Salzburg in 1995. Today, at the peak of her career, Magdalena Kožena is sought-after not only for Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte or Idomeneo, but also for Monteverdi, Handel and Gluck.
Magdalena Kožena’s command of foreign languages and versatility make her particularly at ease with French and German music of the 18th and 19th century, in addition to her natural affinity for eastern European music. Her recital at La Scala will be a showcase for her manifold talents, with a programme including two masterworks: Debussy’s superb Chansons de Bilitis and Mahler’s Rückertlieder.
