The analysis of a prisoner’s mind and a reflection on the philosophical principle of jail, as a perverse human institution especially when it is inflicted on an innocent intellectual, is the underlying theme of Dallapiccola’s whole work.
After that, the serial killer’s mysterious solitude (Bluebeard) in his ancestral home; the blood-soaked castle speaks for itself, and Bartók’s music describes his complex mix of antisocialism and need of affection, during the first night of his marriage that turns into a painful but rich in shocks nightmare.
