The concerts conducted by Gennadi Rozhdestvensky this week are already part of the 2007-08 Symphonic Season. Heir of one of the historic school of direction and previously general music director of the Bolshoi Theatre, the distinguished maestro has chosen only one work of the Russian repertoire for his programme at
Half of the music is French: Saint-Saëns’s little played Concerto No 2 for piano and orchestra will be the prelude to the very popular Symphony No 5 by Tchaikovsky. The Russian pianist Viktoria Postnikova will be the soloist for Saint-Saëns, and will be in perfect harmony with the finale by Tchaikovsky.
