On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March the yearly show of the Ballet School of the Teatro alla Scala Academy returns to put to the test its pupils, this time at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi.
The show begins with an Overture (Bach Concerto-Prologue) by Frédéric Olivieri, Director of the School and of the Ballet Department of the Academy. This part of the programme will illustrate the various levels of the pupils.
Then the Sleeping Beauty by the Swedish choreographer Mats Ek will be revived and restaged by Pompea Santoro, former dancer of the Cullberg Ballet. In this ballet Aurora, a young heroin addict, drifts into the sleep of the overdose. An educative drama about drug, which Mats Ek turns into an extremely expressive dance.
The show ends with a classic of modern dance, George Balanchine’s Serenade, which will be performed for the first time by the Academy.
The Ballet School, historic institution established in 1813, is one of the departments of the Teatro alla Scala Academy, the institution that offers training for all the occupations related to the performing arts.
