The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra has an extremely rich history. Today it is led by Riccardo Chailly, one of the most prominent batons on the international scene, who is Generalmusikdirector of the Orchestra, of the Theatre and of the city of Leipzig. In June, the Italian maestro brings his symphonic jewel to La Scala for an exceptional concert.
The programme has been chosen with care to highlight the characteristics of the Gewandhaus: precision, depth, significance. It is likely to satisfy every type of listener: Brahms’ Violon Concerto Op.77, with the excellent Leonidas Kavakos as soloist; a refined interlude with Arvo Pärt’s delicate Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 4. As Mozart used to say: “For those who know and for those who don’t”
