La Scala’s podium is opening up to Venus: with Marin Alsop, La Scala welcomes for the first time ever a female conductor during its symphonic season.

Born in New York and trained at Yale and at the Julliard School, Marin Alsop performs every season with the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic. She is also guest conductor of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Tonhalle Zurich, Orchestre de Paris, Boston Symphony and Tokyo Philharmonic.

For her debut she has chosen two pieces that are central to every great orchestra, especially the American ones. In addition, these works had long been absent from the symphonic series of La Scala: the “New World” hasn’t been played here for more than ten years.
