Notes on the performancesOpen
The rollicking and melancholy drame lyrique on the dashed sentiments of a young dreamer of an artist is here offered in the form of pure music. Roberto Alagna takes on the poetic responsibility of translating into the infinite nuances of song the spleen of a humble and intimate romanticism, of a passion that is total, but also noble and composed. In Massenet’s masterpiece, French melody is at the service of the extreme love taken from the epistolary novel by Goethe. From there we move on to anguish, the enchantment of nature, and the gentle tone of conversation. Béatrice Uria Monzon interprets the nuances of the female soul and the podium features a legend of French music: the great Georges Prêtre, who is continuing to celebrate an important anniversary in Milan. There are still some people around who remember his stunning Werther in La Scala with Alfredo Kraus, which took to the stage exactly forty years ago.
