Notes on performances

After the two traditional Aidas staged by Zeffirelli in the last decade at La Scala, the sublime archaeological fable without a happy ending is presented in a performance by two great masters such as Zubin Mehta and Peter Stein. The great German director, a naturalized Italian, who also has musical training (he played the violin), has promised “eine ganz intime Aida”, a totally intimate Aida. For the quintessential lyric opera Zubin Mehta returns on La Scala’s podium, generously replacing great Lorin Maazel recently passed away.
