Notes on the performancesOpen
Fascinating and corrupt, immoral and calculating, a victim both of the world and herself, Manon – as MacMillan underscores – loves life, and cannot resist the pleasures it offers her. She is charmante, yet immoral. Her innocence is lost amidst the temptations of a lavish life. The sincere love for Des Grieux does not prevent her from taking him to a state of degradation and turning him into a base thief and murderer.

L’histoire de Manon, third of the six masterpieces written by Kenneth MacMillan, is an excellent example of his ability to merge tradition with innovative spirit, thereby offering great dancers roles that are enthralling on a technical, dramatic and psychological level. The character created by Prévost, which opera fans have adored for years, acquires new life through dance.
