Giuseppe Verdi

Teatro alla Scala Production 2006

Sung in Italian with electronic libretto in Italian, English

Notes on the performancesOpen
The opera by definition, perfect from the first to the last note, even in its variety of exoticism, heroism, choirs, marches and Moorish dances. An archaeological fairytale without a happy ending, at the time of its Italian premiere it notched up one of the biggest hits in the history of La Scala. Solemnity and an epic military feel alternate with the tensions of a hindered love affair. It is both terrestrial and metaphysical. Exemplary.

Zeffirelli’s performance from 1963 is recalled, with the scenes of Lila de Nobili, a visual marvel. The energetic conductor Gianandrea Noseda will be put to the test as he leads an international cast featuring some of the best voices of the present for this vocally wild work.
