Notes on the performancesOpen
Based on Schiller’s Kabale und Liebe, Luisa Miller is an oppressive tale of sacrifice and love thwarted; an intimate and troubled affair that paved the way for the great masterpieces of Verdi’s later years. Mario Martone directs this new La Scala production, building on the success of Pagliacci/Cavalleria rusticana in the 2010/2011 season.

Luisa Miller marks the opera conducting debut at La Scala of Gianandrea Noseda, music director of the Teatro Regio di Torino and chief conductor of the BBC Philharmonic. Noseda leads a cast of great voices, to include Marcelo Álvarez (Rodolfo), Daniela Barcellona (Federica), Leo Nucci (Miller) and Elena Mosuc (Luisa).
