Notes on the performancesOpen
In Donizetti’s irresistible comedy of the same name, Don Pasquale, a rich septuagenarian bachelor with a dogged determination to marry off his nephew, who is head-over-heels in love with the young Norina, to a noble and wealthy ‘old maid’, falls prey to the opera’s schemes and taunts, albethey infused with a subtle sentimentality and a dash of rose-tinted popular wisdom: Il marito vede e tace/quando parla non s’ascolta. (My husband sees and is silent/when he speaks no-one listens).

The opera will appear in the Florence Maggio Musicale production, staged by multi-talented British director, author, humorist, actor, presenter, sculptor and physician Jonathan Miller. The fresh and sparkling staging provides the perfect basis for the annual Teatro della Scala Academy production, in which Academy students create a production to equal the highest standards of performance seen at La Scala.
