Notes on the performancesOpen
Aida is an archaeological fable where solemnity and military epic blend with the tensions of love thwarted, with no happy ending. In tribute to the history of La Scala, this most exotic of Giuseppe Verdi’s operas, perfect from the first note to the last, is performed here in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1963 production, with elegant sets and sophisticated costumes by Lila De Nobili.

Among the exceptional cast are Luciana D’Intino (Amneris), Ambrogio Maestri (Amonastro) and Jorge De Leon (Radames). Omer Meir Wellber conducts, fresh from his 2011 appearance in Tosca, and on the back of a successful tour of this Aida production with La Scala in Israel.
