Notes on the performancesOpen
A tale of jealousy, passion and betrayal in nineteenth-century papal Rome under threat of revolutionary unrest; a centre of power unwilling to let events take their course.

Directing the new production of Tosca by Luc Bondy, who returns to La Scala after the successes of Idomeneo and Salome, is one of the world’s youngest conductors and the target of much attention from critics and the international press, Omer Meir Wellber, a close collaborator of Daniel Barenboim. This exciting partnership offers a modern reinterpretation of Puccini’s masterpiece.

Featured among the cast of fine voices is a return performance from tenor Jonas Kaufmann, who wowed La Scala audiences in Carmen, which opened the 2009/2010 season.
