Notes on the performancesOpen
Rossini meets the world of Walter Scott in La donna del lago, a tale of ladies and knights in the sixteenth-century Scotland of James V, rocked by the rebellion of Stirling’s highland clans. Three valiant men, one of whom is the King in disguise, engage in a contest to win the love of the young and beautiful Elena.

Two sublime Rossini exponents, Juan Diego Flórez and Joyce DiDonato, who delighted audiences in Il barbiere di Siviglia, take on the vocally formidable roles of James V and Elena. Roberto Abbado conducts, with scenery and costumes by Ezio Frigerio and Franca Squarciapino in this Lluis Pasqual production.
