Notes on the performancesOpen: Caprice and sensuality, the timeless ritual of seduction that thrives on pursuit and satisfaction, fickleness and disguise, passion and skirmish: in his new full-length work, La Scala dancer and choreographer Gianluca Schiavoni takes on the subject of il gioco amoroso, the game of love, via a journey through the musical and literary heritage of the eighteenth century. While looking for his Italian main man, he stumbles on Casanova.

But who today can fully embody the capacity to flatter, the confident swagger, the polished weapons of seduction and the persuasive elegance for which Casanova is universally known? The twentieth-century musical contributions carve gashes of introspection into the score. Ultimately, the continual search reflects the eternal failure to achieve satisfaction. At selected performances the lead will be danced by Polina Semionova.
