This production of Verdi’s masterpiece by Federico Tiezzi has found new artistic energy under the baton of Myung-whun Chung, meeting with great success at La Scala, as well as on tour at the Bolshoi and in China. The conductor’s multifaceted sensibility evokes a powerful emotive charge through the lyrical abandon, bitterness and suggestive musical landscape of the score, playing on the strength of an ideal cast, where Leo Nucci’s regal authority is accompanied by the noble Amelia, played by Krassimira Stoyanova – who has become one of La Scala’s most beloved voices –, Fabio Sartori’s Gabriele and Dmitry Belosselskiy’s Fiesco.
