NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE
Svetlana Zakharova and Roberto Bolle are the protagonists of a milestone of John Neumeier’s choreographic work, a great example of his predilection for narrative ballet and of his contemporary concept of dramatic ballet. 2018 is the 40th anniversary of the production for the Stuttgart Ballet and the 170th anniversary of the publication of Alexandre Dumas’ novel. Neumeier has chosen to get inspiration from the novel, rather than from its stage adaptation by the same author, and he leads to the dramatic climax, on Chopin’s moving notes, through wonderful pas de deux, great ensemble scenes, and important solos.
