NOTES ON THE PERFORMANCE

Commissioned by the Bolshoi Theatre in 2014, The Taming of the Shrew was the first ballet created by Jean-Christophe Maillot for a company that was not his own. Inspired by  Shakespeare’s comedy, it was awarded three Golden Masks. Maillot created a great narrative work for the Bolshoi dancers, to let them show not only their ability but also their acting skills, while the music has been chosen among Šostakovič’s compositions for the cinema. For the choreographer, this comedy is a wonderful story of human relationships, and just needs to be translated into body language.
