La Scala’s Academy is the training ground for the stage professionals involved in our live performances. Led by its President Pier Andrea Chevallard and Director Luisa Vinci, the Academy has four departments: Music, Dance, Backstage/Workshops and Management.
The broad programme of learning activities on offer, which includes courses, specialist training and workshops, provides an opportunity for young people aged between 6 and 30 years of age from all over the world to make their mark in the artistic, technical and managerial fields.
Thanks to its excellent teaching staff – which boasts La Scala professionals, renowned artists and field experts among its number – the Academy ensures its students the best possible training. The curriculum, which is based on a teaching style that promotes direct contact with the professional world, enables students to acquire “hands-on” skills on a daily basis, which are strengthened through intensive internship experience.
The annual “Academy Project”, an opera performance billed as part of La Scala’s season programme each year in which many of the Academy’s students are involved, is just one of the many performance opportunities available to pupils in addition to the teaching programme, which includes concerts, theatre, opera and ballet performances, exhibitions and seminars.
In recent years, efforts have been made to further contacts outside Italy to increase opportunities for student exchanges, study visits and concert tours. There has also been significant development in the area of European Community-funded research and cooperation projects.
